Sea Green Singers - Class War by Anne Watson - score and lyrics from Dropbox2021

Chorus:
There is a class war, class war, class war yeah,
There is a class war, class war, class war. Yeah,
And for the have nots, have-nots, have-nots, yeah,
this war is not won, not won, not won, No!

1. Have you been to Barton, have you been to Blackbird Leys,
there’s big parts of Oxford that the tourist never sees.
And through-out the city, and hidden out of sight,
There are children who are hungry, who are cold at night

2. This happens here in Oxford, right here in Oxford town,
Where welfare cuts and sanctions keep the poorest people down.
And prices, rents and housing keep costing more and more,
So many Oxfords citizens are seriously poor. Chorus

3.The elite eat at high tables and their god thanks,
The system makes the poor depend on food banks,
Some deny necessity to redistribute wealth,
the poor must fight each day for home, warmth and health. Chorus

4. There’s lots of jobs with agencies who give you zero hours,
they disenfranchise workers, boosting private sector powers,
The gap between the poor and richest one per cent
makes the weathyy harder hearted, for the poor, all hope is spent.

5, Poor families have to move if they can’t pay bed-room tax,
while someone pays a million for a second home *he lacks.
and the poor who need affordable will creep round the back.
* could be ‘they lack’ to make less sexist’ Chorus
